One terabyte of hard-disk storage on a KVM server of your own, for backups, a small Nextcloud or an archive. Here is what it holds, what it costs here and elsewhere, and when 500 GB or 2 TB fits better.

**Quick answer — Where can I get a VPS with 1 TB of storage?**

**Coffervale** rents a 1 TB VPS in Europe, meaning 1 TB of HDD storage and not 1 TB of RAM: the Clay plan costs $1.66 a month on the 12-month term or $2.37 month to month, paid in crypto with no ID at signup. On 2 November 2026, the plan Clay is priced against, DeluxHost STORAGE-2, cost $2.22 a month.

## What does "1 TB VPS" mean?

**At Coffervale, a 1 TB VPS is a virtual server with one terabyte of disk space.** Search engines and forums mix two things under the same words: some people looking for a "1TB VPS" want 1 TB of storage, others a server with 1 TB of RAM, which is a different machine at a different price. Ours is the first kind: a KVM server sized for disk, with enough processor and memory to run backup software, a sync service or a small web app on top of that disk.

A terabyte here is 1,000 GB, the way disk makers count it. Your operating system may show the same disk as about 931 GiB, because it counts in powers of two: same bytes, different unit. A fresh ext4 filesystem also keeps 5% of its blocks for root by default; on a disk used only for data you can lower that with `tune2fs -m 1`.

## What fits in 1 TB?

**One terabyte holds a large personal archive or the backups of a few machines, not a media library that keeps growing.** Rough arithmetic, before compression or deduplication:

- photos from a phone at about 4 MB each: around 250,000 of them;
- a laptop with 250 GB of files: four full copies, and far more when a deduplicating tool such as Borg, restic or Kopia stores only the blocks that changed;
- documents and email exports: years of them, since text compresses well.

If you expect to pass 1 TB within a year, start on Shale (2 TB), which costs $1.67 per TB a month on 12 months, almost the same rate per terabyte as Clay. To grow, order a larger plan and copy your data across with rsync or zfs send; resizing a running server in place is not offered at launch.

## How much does 1 TB of storage cost elsewhere?

**On 2 November 2026, a 1 TB storage VPS from a host that takes crypto and asks for no ID document at signup cost from $2.22 a month.** According to Coffervale's survey of 2 November 2026, those hosts listed 14 storage VPS plans of about 1 TB, 9 of them with 2 GB of RAM or less; every seller, with stock and source, is in [what is the least expensive storage VPS per TB right now?](https://coffervale.com/storage-vps-price-index/ "Storage VPS price index, November 2026"). Storage boxes and backup services are listed too, because people weigh them against a VPS: they cost about the same per terabyte or more, but give you no server of your own.

| Offer | What you get | Price for about 1 TB a month | Crypto | Root access |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Hostbrr Hybrid 1TB | Storage VPS, 1 TB HDD | $3.91 (€3.50, excl. VAT) | Yes | Yes |
| HostHatch Storage 1TB | Storage VPS, 1 TB HDD | $5.00 | Yes | Yes |

## What can a 1 TB VPS run?

**With 2 vCPU and 3 GB RAM, Clay runs the usual storage jobs comfortably.**

- **A backup target** for Borg, restic, Kopia or plain rsync over SSH. These tools encrypt on your side before upload, so the server holds only ciphertext; the routine is in [how do I use a VPS for off-site backups?](https://coffervale.com/backup-vps/ "Backup VPS: a storage VPS for off-site backups").
- **Nextcloud or Seafile** for one to a few people. HDD storage is fine for files; keep the database small and on the same server, or pick Shale for more memory headroom, as weighed in [what is the best VPS for Nextcloud with 1 TB or more of storage?](https://coffervale.com/nextcloud-vps/ "Nextcloud sizing on a storage VPS").
- **An always-on Syncthing node** that keeps folders in step between devices.

What it is not built for: databases with heavy random writes, or anything that needs SSD response times. Every plan stores your data on hard disks (HDD) chosen for capacity, not speed: they suit backups, archives and file sync, not databases or heavy random reads and writes. We publish no speed or IOPS figure we cannot back.

## 500 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB: which one?

**Pick the size that will still have room in a year, then the term.** Silt (500 GB) costs $1.24 a month on 12 months, Clay (1 TB) $1.66, and Shale (2 TB) $3.34. Per terabyte, Clay and Shale are the best value of the five plans, at $1.66 and $1.67; Silt costs more per terabyte because its processor and memory weigh more against a smaller disk. Every price and term is on [the pricing page](https://coffervale.com/pricing/ "Coffervale storage VPS plans and terms").

## Order a 1 TB VPS, or a size either side

| Plan | Quantity | 30 days | 3 months | 6 months | 1 year |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Silt | 500 GB HDD · 1 vCPU · 2 GB RAM | $1.77 | $4.77 (−10%) | $8.49 (−20%) | $14.86 (−30%) |
| Clay | 1 TB HDD · 2 vCPU · 3 GB RAM | $2.37 | $6.39 (−10%) | $11.37 (−20%) | $19.90 (−30%) |
| Shale | 2 TB HDD · 2 vCPU · 4 GB RAM | $4.77 | $12.87 (−10%) | $22.89 (−20%) | $40.06 (−30%) |

In every plan: HDD storage from 500 GB · Root over SSH (key optional) · KVM with your own kernel · IPv4 + IPv6 · No setup fee · No KYC

**Before you pay**

- Top-ups start at $1. One crypto top-up can pay for any plan and any rental length.
- Credit on your balance does not expire and renews any of your VPS. When a top-up is only made to reach the minimum, the unspent part comes back on request within 30 days of payment, in USDT or USDC. The rest of a balance is not paid out unless the law requires it.
- Credited after we check the payment on the blockchain. Usual network confirmation time: BTC ≈ 20 min · USDT TRC-20 ≈ 1 min · USDT ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · USDC ERC-20 ≈ 5 min · ETH ≈ 5 min · SOL ≈ 1 min · LTC ≈ 15 min · XMR ≈ 20 min

## Questions about 1 TB VPS

### Is a 1 TB VPS the same as 1 TB of RAM?

Not here. At Coffervale, 1 TB always means disk space: Clay has 1 TB of HDD storage with 3 GB RAM. A server with a terabyte of memory is a large dedicated machine, which we do not sell.

### Will I see the full 1 TB?

You get 1,000 GB of disk, which Linux tools show as about 931 GiB because they count in powers of two. The filesystem then takes a small share for its own structures, as on any disk.

### Is a 1 TB VPS enough for Nextcloud?

For one to a few people, yes: Clay has 2 vCPU and 3 GB RAM. A family that shares phone photo uploads usually fills 1 TB within a few years; Shale doubles the space for $3.34 a month on 12 months.

### Can I pay for a 1 TB VPS with Bitcoin?

Yes. You top up a balance with BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, XMR, from $1, and order Clay from it. No KYC: no ID document, no selfie, no card and no phone number is asked at signup.

### Is my 1 TB of data backed up?

No. We take no backup of your server and keep no copy of your data anywhere else, so what sits on a Coffervale storage VPS should be one of your copies, never the only one. One storage VPS is one copy in one place. The 3-2-1 rule asks for three copies, on two kinds of media, with one of them off-site: a storage VPS fits as that off-site copy, next to two you keep yourself.
