What storage VPS can I use instead of BuyVM storage slabs?

BuyVM's slabs are a well-priced idea: cheap block storage attached to a small server. On 2 November 2026 the servers they attach to could not be ordered. Here is what was in stock, what each option costs, and how to move your data.

Quick answer

What can I use instead of BuyVM storage slabs?

On 2 November 2026, BuyVM storage slabs cost $5.00 per TB a month, but a slab only attaches to a KVM slice, and every slice was out of stock in all 4 locations, so a new customer could not order the pair. In-stock storage VPS alternatives that take crypto included Hostbrr, HostHatch and Coffervale, whose 1 TB plan costs $1.66 a month on 12 months.

What are BuyVM storage slabs?

A slab is block storage that you attach to a BuyVM KVM slice; it is not a server on its own. Anyone looking for something to use instead of BuyVM storage slabs is usually after the same thing: a small server with a lot of cheap disk. BuyVM's own pages, read on 2 November 2026, describe the product this way:

  • sold in 256 GB steps at $1.25 a month, so 1 TB costs $5.00 and 10 TB costs $50.00;
  • up to 10 TB per slab and up to 8 slabs per slice;
  • the slab needs an accompanying KVM slice "in the same facility";
  • four sites: Las Vegas, New York, Miami, and a fourth that the website calls Roost, Luxembourg while its order cart titles the group "Switzerland";
  • the smallest slice in the cart costs $3.00 a month: 512 MB of RAM, 1 core and a 10 GB NVMe disk.

On payment, BuyVM listed BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC, DOGE and XMR through CoinPayments when read on 29 October 2026. Its signup has no ID-document step; its terms ask for accurate identification and contact details and a residential address. An older "Storage VPS" page (250 GB to 4 TB, RAID-60) is still in the menu but has no working order path.

What was in stock at BuyVM on 2 November 2026?

Slabs were in stock only in Las Vegas, and slices were in stock nowhere. Every slice configuration page read that day said orders for it "have been suspended". Without a slice, a slab cannot be attached, so a new customer could buy neither.

What does a slice plus slab cost against a storage VPS?

At list price, a BuyVM slice plus slab costs $8.00 a month for 1 TB and $23.00 for 4 TB, more than several storage VPS that were in stock the same day. The slab rate of $5.00 per TB is low; the slice on top is what changes the sum at small sizes. According to Coffervale's survey of 2 November 2026, only 10 of the 18 storage VPS sellers that take crypto and ask no ID had a plan in Europe that a new customer could order and pay monthly.

What does a slab do that a fixed storage VPS does not?

A slab separates the server from the disk: you can add storage in 256 GB steps without moving your data. The slice keeps its NVMe system disk and Ryzen core for the operating system and applications, and the slab holds the bulk. A storage VPS sells disk and server as one fixed plan. At Coffervale: To grow, order a larger plan and copy your data across with rsync or zfs send; resizing a running server in place is not offered at launch.

If growing in small steps matters more than the smallest monthly bill, some in-stock hosts sell add-on disks: VSYS Host listed an extra 1 TB of HDD at $6.00 a month and LiteServer an extra 256 GB at €2.50 a month on 2 November 2026.

Which alternative to BuyVM slabs fits which need?

Start from the one requirement you will not bend on, then compare prices inside that group.

  • Monero payment: BuyVM, VSYS Host, Privex, Hostbrr, VPSLab, PrivateAlps named Monero on their own pages; BuyVM is one of them. Coffervale does not take Monero; it accepts BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC.
  • No documented ID trigger, in stock in Europe: HostHatch, NolimitHost, Privex and PrivateAlps. The full split between "no" and "conditional" is in is there a storage VPS that does not ask for ID?
  • A US location: HostHatch (Los Angeles, Chicago) and InterServer, which sells 1 TB slices at $3.00 in the US only.
  • Least expensive per TB in Europe: DeluxHost, Hostbrr and HostHatch, in that order, among hosts that take crypto and ask no ID.
  • Several terabytes: plans from 2 to 8 TB are compared in which VPS gives the most storage for the money?

Every seller, with stock and billing, is in what is the least expensive storage VPS per TB right now?

How do I move data from a BuyVM slab to a storage VPS?

Copy with rsync over SSH while the old server still runs, then copy again just before you switch. The second pass only sends what changed. -a keeps permissions and times, -H, -A and -X add hard links, ACLs and extended attributes, and --numeric-ids keeps owner numbers as they are. A Borg or restic repository can be copied the same way while no backup is running.

Two-pass copy from the slab to the new server
# On the BuyVM slice: first full copy of the slab's mount point
rsync -aHAX --numeric-ids --info=progress2 /mnt/slab/ [email protected]:/srv/data/
# Just before the switch: send only the changes and drop files deleted since
rsync -aHAX --numeric-ids --delete --info=progress2 /mnt/slab/ [email protected]:/srv/data/

BuyVM storage slab alternative: questions

Are BuyVM storage slabs on HDD or SSD?

BuyVM's slab page did not state the disk type on 2 November 2026; it mentions large NVMe read and write buffers. The older Storage VPS page describes RAID-60 arrays, but that product could not be ordered.

When will BuyVM have KVM slices in stock again?

No date was published. The slice configuration pages said only that orders were suspended while the item was out of stock.

Can I attach a BuyVM slab to a slice in another location?

No. BuyVM requires the slice to be in the same facility as the slab.

Does Coffervale sell add-on disks like a slab?

Not at launch. To grow, order a larger plan and copy your data across with rsync or zfs send; resizing a running server in place is not offered at launch. Plans run from 500 GB to 8 TB; Bedrock, at 8 TB, is the largest storage VPS we sell. Past that size a dedicated storage server, a whole machine full of disks, is the better fit, and we say so plainly rather than stretch a VPS.

Which storage VPS takes Monero like BuyVM?

On 2 November 2026: BuyVM, VSYS Host, Privex, Hostbrr, VPSLab, PrivateAlps. Of those 6, all but BuyVM had a storage plan in stock that day.
